A multimedia flagship, part of the iconic N series. The successor to the Nokia N70, which is the successor to the Nokia 6680.
The smartphone strongly resembles the predecessor in design and functions, which in turn resembled the 6680. That is why there are many similarities such as a speaker on the top of the device, sliding camera cover and a front camera.
For some reason it was decided to replace the d-pad with a joystick, which was common in competing devices from Sony Ericsson. However, this type of control has been abandoned in newer models.
New, compared to the 6680 and N70, is the ditching of RS-MMC memory cards in favour of miniSD and a completely new version of the Symbian system.
The N73 also features a programmable key (introduced in the N70), located to the right of the 3 and 6 keys.
To make using the then highly regarded camera with Zeiss optics easier, the smartphone has gained a two-stage shutter button on the side, a button to open the gallery, and buttons used as a zoom.
An additional thing is the notification LED next to the front camera. This became standard on Android devices many years later.
The Nokia N73 is a solid high-end device that quickly became a hit.
A few months after its release, a variant called the Music Edition was introduced, which focused on music playback features. Interestingly, the firmware from that model can be installed on the standard N73 and vice versa.
